Jared Spool over at UIE posted this incredible job ad. I love it because it’s innovative in its approach, clearly sets expectations, and conveys accurately not only a sense of what’s expected of the candidate, but also where the company is going or could be going with the right person.

Kudos to Jared and the UIE team for such a great ad. Read more after the break.
Company: User Interface Engineering
Job Title: Amazing Top-Quality Event Manager

Fast Forward One Year…

We’d like to thank you for doing a fantastic job managing both our 2008 events: a 3-day summit in San Diego and a 4-day event in Boston. Both events had a record-breaking turnout of highly satisfied attendees and very cared-for presenters.

In addition, you did the impossible: launching a new series of workshops in cities in Europe, Canada, and the US. With your typical attention to detail, you carefully selected great venues, scheduled the presenters, negotiated the vendor contracts, prepared all the marketing content, put together a detailed budget, launched the marketing campaigns, and produced each workshop.

You even enjoyed traveling to many of these events and we were impressed when you weren’t intimidated when introducing the speaker to a crowd of a hundred strangers. (Ok, maybe you were a little nervous, but it didn’t show.)

To top it all off, you conducted a thorough review of our event costs and made great recommendations for reducing our expenses. Your comparison of our budgets to the actual costs helped us understand how to deliver high quality, engaging events while keeping our costs down.

Everyone in the company would like to thank you for your dedication. We can’t wait until next year.

Now Back To Today…

If you’d like this to be your story, send us your resume with a half-page write-up of your most significant event management accomplishment. While we’re less concerned with your skills and qualifications, we won’t compromise on your ability to deliver team results. We’ll be back to you in 24 hours if you have what it takes to achieve something special.

You might even want to check out our web site—www.uie.com—for some insight into what we’re doing. We think you’ll be excited by where we are today and the challenge to get us where we’re going.

I was wondering what could make you rave about a job ad…

    That was good.

I can’t take full credit for the post. Much of the framework comes from the wonderful hiring book by Lou Adler, Hire with Your Head.

Of course, all the job-specific content is ours.

Holy moley, that was a pretty inspiring call to action. @Jared: I’ll certainly be checking out Lou Adler’s book – and even though the framework might come from his book, you and your company deserve kudos for your effort to creatively engage talent. It will be interesting to see who rises to the occasion and answers that call to action.
