I'm ditching my business card pile

Warning: this content is older than 365 days. It may be out of date and no longer relevant.

I’ve been to a lot of conferences.

I’ve gotten a lot of people’s business cards.

I’ve been less than perfect about managing them all.

Business card pile

Today I’ve hooked up with a company that is going to handle it from now on.

Shoeboxed handles bulk business card scanning. Mail them the pile after a conference, get back a datafeed and the originals in the mail. Excel, CSV, PDF, whatever.

For anyone who has had to manage more than a few business cards after a conference, you know how good this will be for you.

Full disclosure: I signed up as an affiliate. I will earn a very small amount of money if you sign up and buy through this link:

Sign up for ShoeBoxed for automated bulk business card scanning.

And that crate of cards? Going out the door TODAY. Buh-bye data entry.

With my Scansnap, I don't mind the scanning anymore. Plus I depend on Twitter for mass connections, and hand extract a few cards here and there where I truly need full information for immediate follow-ups. The piece that is missing for me is the post-scanning data review, to be sure the scan was correct. Does this service include that?

I'll know soon. They just sent me the first envelope to mail my crate of stuff in!

Funny you wrote this post now — as I sit here with mini-piles of categorized biz cards all over my desk, doing data entry. In order to tie most of the faces I met at #nms08 to the cards, I am also conducting searches on LinkedIn to see photos and then creating a note for myself. Wonder if the service includes photo attachments? Thanks for sharing this resource!

Great idea. I dread the logging in of Biz cards. Brogan's right (via Twitter) very cute photo of you. 🙂

Pardon my ignorance here, but when one's business card (for the most part) is the Google search engine and everything it brings up, where's the purpose in scanning a piece of paper? Do you build a CRM database with it for listserv emails or such?

Primarily for adding to my Apple Address Book!
