You’ve Discovered The Missing Link

404 - This is the error page you were looking forThe link you just clicked on has gone missing. Once upon a time, it was a working link that took you to somewhere captivating, somewhere exotic, a distant destination on the web that hinted at satisfaction, gratification, perhaps even pleasure. Alas, it is gone, lost to the sands of time and the winds of digital change.

Why are you seeing this page? Well, one of the things Google keeps an eye on is the number of bad links that your website links TO. Sites like mine with many pages and years of content show their age when old links start going bad. Every so often, to show search engine algorithms that I do care about the user experience, I rewrite and redirect non-working links to this page. In doing so I slightly improve the internal linking of my site.

Why is this important? If you run a website, or have responsibility for a website, you should do the same. Use the SEO tool of your choice (I recommend SEMrush, personally) to find the dead outgoing links on your site and redirect them somewhere that helps your audience resume their digital journey.

For now, you can do one of two things. First, you could hit the back button to go back where you were. Second, if you enjoy tips like this, you could subscribe to my newsletter. Either way, thanks for being here.
